In Death They Bloom by Sarah Shields

Dead Girl in the Garden of Birds

Girl and Her Moon

Black Birds and Cage

Sarah Shields often pretends she is a cowgirl in a dusty desert ghost town. A ghost herself or maybe a skeleton and probably both, the important thing is she is the sheriff and there are no guns in her town. Maybe this is a story she is living or maybe one she’s been writing and illustrating for many years. Either way, she likes to pretend-smoke candy cigarettes, hang out with wise old vultures, take milk baths to keep her bones strong, cause a little trouble now and again, and dream wild dreams about fighting real crime one day soon.
